Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
