The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
