From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the group access places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Planners groups.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
